£1m awarded to victim hit by uninsured driver

A man who was left quadriplegic after being hit by an uninsured driver in a 4×4 looks set to receive £1million in compensation, even though the incident happened on private land.

Farmer Dennis Tindale believed that the victim, Michael Lewis was on his land with the intention of stealing metal. Both cars collided after the farmer pursued him over a field. In 2014, Mr Tindale was cleared of causing grievous bodily harm with intent. The Motor Insurance Bureau however, under European Law, has awarded Mr Lewis a reported £1m in damages.
