Calls for stricter regulations surrounding asbestos

The thinktank ResPublica has called for stricter regulations surrounding asbestos, which will bring the UK in line with other European countries.

They warn that children in the UK can legally be exposed to 10 times as much asbestos in comparison to other European countries.

They suggest that a register is compiled of all the locations in the UK where asbestos still exists such as hospitals, schools, homes and municipal buildings.

It is thought that 5000 people die a year in the UK due to asbestos-related diseases.
