Could life sentences for death by dangerous driving become a reality?
The new Justice Secretary, Robert Buckland, is reported to be pushing Boris Johnson to reform the laws surrounding death by dangerous driving. Deaths caused by drivers who speed, drink drive or chat on their mobile phones could face tougher sentences under plans by the new government.
Buckland wishes to introduce life sentences for death caused by dangerous driving or careless driving while under the influence of drink or drugs.
The new proposal was announced two years ago, but has yet to be implemented.
