The NHS paid out £1.4bn last year in compensation claims

In the annual accounts by NHS Resolution, the in-house insurer for GPs, hospitals and health services, figures shows that the NHS paid out £1.4bn in compensation last year.

This is double what was paid out five years ago. It is thought that the cost of clinical negligence has bumped up the figures.
