Patients recalled as breast surgeon’s malpractice comes to light

An inquiry into the malpractice of breast surgeon Ian Paterson has called for the recall of 11,000 patients to be assessed.

Mr Paterson is serving a 20-year jail term for 17 counts of wounding with intent after it was found that he performed unregulated mastectomies, in which breast tissue was left behind, resulting in the cancer returning.

In other cases, some patients found out years later that they did not have cancer.
