Suggestion to stagger compensation payments for personal injury cases

The former Justice Minister, Lord Faulks has suggested that compensation payments for serious personal injury cases should be staggered. He suggests compensation levels remain too high despite legislation reform. The introduction of enforcing periodical payment orders (PPOs), where payments are made annually and increase in line with inflation, would help reduce costs to the taxpayer.
In 2018/19 the government paid out £2.3bn in medical negligence payments.
