Life sentences for motorists who cause death by dangerous driving

New sentencing proposals will see motorists who cause death by dangerous driving face life imprisonment.

At present the maximum sentence for causing death by speeding, racing or using a mobile phone is 14 years. This will increase to a life sentence, the equivalent to manslaughter.

Causing death by driving under the influence of drink or drugs will also rise from 14 years to a life sentence.
